Bob Grant - The King of Talk Radio

Bob Grant has returned to NY radio on 77 WABC!

After my first pirate radio station was shut down I had a huge void to fill every Friday night - so I'd call Long John and try to incite him to yell at me - maybe even call me a "no good Yellow Bastard that hasn't got the guts to come down!"

Long John Nebel

Once upon a time, "Ba-Ba Louie" was just the name of Quick Draw McGraw's trusty side kick, and there was an all night radio talk show that seemed to get an extraordinary amount of prank phone calls.  Most of which were funny, even though none of them mentioned Ba-Ba Louie or Booey.

The hosts of the show were the legendary Long John Nebel, and his lovely wife Candy Jones. Long John had a very distinct speaking style, and would sometimes take 20 minutes or more  to introduce his guest.

We enjoyed listening to Long John late into the night, and it was especially fun when John would get angry at the callers and holler at them - sometimes to the point of cursing on the air!

Larry King

In the mid 70's there came a time when you could not avoid hearing Larry King on your AM radio dial - no matter how hard you tried!  The proliferation of King's network show replacing local late-night programming gave us reason to prank him a several times - he deserved it!

#1 features Tom Leykis, myself, and Howard Hoffman in a group-prank of  Larry King.  Notice the Mutual "beep-beep" sounder - we were trying to fire network spots across the Mutual Radio Network, and we understand that several automated stations did go to break.

#2 - I 'congratulate' Larry on reaching his 201st affiliate.  That was 201 too many.

#3 - More attempts by myself, Howard Hoffman, and friends at firing the Mutual Sounder across the network.  What fun.

John Mclaughlin

John Mclaughlin WRC Pranks

This is a compilation of one very clever and funny guy's prank calls to WRC in Washington DC.  We don't know who this prankster is, but we admire him for his warped sense of humor.  He cracks up most of the hosts, except for one that wants to strangle him!

Jerry Lewis #1

Jerry Lewis #2

Jerry Lewis #3 Jerry Lewis

You have to love a guy who reaches the pinnacle of his career as a comedian, movie star, and successful film writer and director, and still takes the time to record some hysterical prank phone calls made from his office at Paramount Studios.

#1 - Jerry poses as a Telephone Company technician and drives a guy crazy while trying to test his circuit.

#2 - Jerry receives a call from a drunken idiot, Bill Lynch, who doesn't realize he is on the phone with Jerry Lewis.  This guy keeps saying "MS" instead of MDS, and there are lots of laughs as Jerry keeps prodding him on.

#3. Jerry gives a tailor a very hard time.

An entire CDs worth of Jerry Lewis Phoney Phone Calls is available right here!

WOR 710 NY - "The Fitzgeralds"

Ed and Peguine Fitzgerald

A throwback to the early days of radio, Ed and his wife Peguine Fitzgerald had been done an afternoon talk show for many years. By the 70's they would broadcast from the living room of their Manhattan apartment - and the conversation would be mostly about their numerous cats...

Fun With Operators

In the old days, when you dialed a non working number, you would speak to an 'intercept operator' whose only job was to tell you that you had dialed a non working number.  We liked to have fun with them!
